I'm just returning from a long weekend at the much-anticipated San Diego Comic-Con 2016. My bags are overflowing with convention swag and my phone is full of photo memories. There is a lot to share in this post so let's get to it!
San Diego Comic-Con is the largest comic book, fantasy and popular arts convention in the United States. With over 100,000 attendees a massive exhibitors hall and a mile of panel rooms, it's quite the experience. D.C Comics, Marvel and Warner Brothers are known for premiering upcoming movie trailers and even exhibiting costumes from their films for attendees to enjoy. Fans travel far and wide to attend the convention and cosplayer’s create their best work for the Masquerade Ball on Saturday night.
In addition to all the fun, I've been volunteering with my union Local 705, for the last 6 months planning our first big presence at the convention. There was a union booth with information for future members, we handed out hallway awards, presented our first award at the masquerade ball and had our panel “Superhero Textiles: Construction and Deconstruction.” The panel starred some of the union's most talented custom made costume makers. It was such an interesting event- I’m editing a podcast of the audio now, look for that soon. I also represented my union and this blog as a guest at the Her Universe Fashion show, which will get a special post next week.
In other news our sister local The Costume Designers Guild, presented a beautiful panel with costume designers Terry Dresbach of Outlander, and Giovanna “Gigi” Ottobre-Melton of Agent Carter to name a few. My family and I also made it to a Conan O'Brien Comic-Con special taping and saw his guest-the cast of Game of Thrones. It was a fabulous weekend and I’m already looking forward to next year! Enjoy my behind the scenes peek below.
